Floating Wall Shelves

Shelves are great. You can attach them to any wall, and they give you more storage room, and who doesn't need more storage?

have various wall shelves in my basement, bathroom, bedrooms, and other places around the house as well as in my office storing all kinds of "stuff" including books, paper supplies, paints and tools, hats, electronics, etc.

Shelves are also great for displaying items. For example, my wife is a potter and proudly displays her pottery on shelves mounted on the dining room walls and we have trophies the kids have earned from the pedal tractor pull at the local country fair as well as other keepsakes displayed on shelves in the living room.

Some wall shelves do not need to look good, for example the shelves in the basement holding cans of paint. Hopefully they are not ugly, but no one sees them so decor is not an issue. Other shelves are very visible and can actually add to and be part of your decor.

Floating wall shelves are special shelves that appear to "float" on the wall. They do not have traditional visible brackets. Instead their brackets are internal and they are installed so that the bracket is not visible at all. Sometimes they'll be called "bracketless shelves." They can be as strong as traditional shelves yet look fragile.

Floating wall shelves are used where you want attractive shelves. Let's face it, most brackets are not especially attractive. That isn't to say that all bracketed wall shelves are ugly, they are not by any means; floating shelves simply give you more options.

Just like normal shelves, they are made of various materials like painted wood, beautiful hardwoods like cherry, black walnut, mahogany and more, melamine, plastic, and glass. Finding ones to complement your decor is usually not tough. You can probably find a selection at your local department stores and home stores, and not surprising there is a large selection at Amazon if you prefer to shop or research online.

Sometimes you'll find floating wall shelves available in matching sets and arrangements which may include different sizes, shapes, and sometimes box like cubbies as well.
